"Money alone will not solve the problem; it requires political will and leadership to make TB eradication a priority."

David S. Perlin, Director, Public Health Research Institute, Newark, Sept. 14, 2006

Did You Know?

Failure by the international community to respond to the global TB problem has now resulted in extensively-drug resistant strains of TB developing in many parts of the world.

The ACTION Project

In December 2004, RESULTS UK received a three-year grant from RESULTS Educational Fund (REF) to support a global tuberculosis advocacy campaign.

The project, Advocacy to Control Tuberculosis Internationally (ACTION), was developed to address and help reverse the global TB problem through policy analysis, education of policymakers and advocacy. The project's underlying premise is that more rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic by building increased support for TB among key policymakers and other key opinion leaders in both donor and high TB burden countries in order to leverage needed additional resources and to improve policies.

ACTION was developed and is being implemented by a consortium of TB and advocacy organisations committed to addressing and reversing the global TB problem. In four donor countries, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, RESULTS partners are working to increase political will to mobilise greater financial support for addressing TB in developing countries. In three high-TB-burden countries, India, Indonesia and Kenya, ACTION partners are working with national governments and civil society to overcome key policy constraints that have impeded successful and rapid expansion of TB treatment.

The ACTION project was renewed for a further five years from December 2007.
