Frequently Asked Questions

What is RESULTS?

RESULTS is a grassroots advocacy organisation whose purpose is to generate the public and political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty and to support ordinary citizens to believe in their capacity to create social change.

Why do we need RESULTS?

Each day almost 30,000 children around the world die from largely preventable malnutrition and disease. 1.4 billion people live in absolute poverty, without access to the basic resources that could enable them to become self-sufficient.

What does RESULTS do?

RESULTS volunteer activists campaign for a better and fairer world for all, by influencing the media and calling on their elected representatives to support policies that combat hunger and poverty.

How long have we been around?

Sam Daley-Harris, a US schoolteacher, founded RESULTS in 1980. He was inspired by statements from the US National Academy of Sciences calling for the political will to end hunger.

Where else does RESULTS work?

We work in seven countries – USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia and Mexico. Each national office is a separate charity in its own right, but we often work together on issues of particular importance.

What do we spend our money on?

The vast majority of RESULTS’ expenditure goes on educating people about how government works, teaching them the facts about global hunger and poverty, and helping them to educate the public and their representatives about the myths that surround hunger and poverty.

What have we achieved?

In recent years the UK government has increased its overall spending on international development, including the specific areas where RESULTS has its focus - health, education and microfinance.

How do I get involved?

There are many ways to participate in RESULTS depending on your interest level and the time you have available. You can join as an individual or as part of a group. RESULTS groups are small and friendly and usually meet in someone’s home. To find out more take a look at the get involved page.
