Grassroots Education and Action

RESULTS aims to encourage and support ordinary people to believe in their own capacity to create and sustain social change. After all, none of the great social movements of our time occurred until the political will was great enough to demand a shift in public policy.

RESULTS has a dedicated grassroots network, currently totalling more than a hundred individual activists and ten groups in cities, towns and villages across the country. To find your nearest group click here.

Most volunteers find the support of a group invaluable, allowing them to meet other like-minded people in an informal and friendly setting.

The core activity of a RESULTS group is a monthly ‘Briefing and Action’ meeting, usually held in someone’s home on the first Tuesday of the month. Well-researched and concise action materials on that month’s issue are provided ahead of the meeting so that volunteers may familiarise themselves with the material.

The different groups are then linked by phone into a national conference call.

Each month a different guest speaker is invited to join the call, he or she may be an MP, representative of a large international institution, or other development expert with a specific knowledge of that month’s issue. The guest speaker is then invited to share their own expertise with the group before the call is opened up to questions, where grassroots members get the opportunity to quiz the guest further.

The conference calls provide an excellent and often unparalleled opportunity for ordinary, concerned citizens to speak to those with the power, influence or expertise to really make a difference in the fight against hunger and poverty.

With the knowledge and insight gained from the action materials and guest speaker, our volunteers then take specific action to try and bring about meaningful change, whether it is through meeting their MP or writing letters to decision-makers or the media.
