“I know that if I wasn’t a partner in RESULTS then I wouldn’t get around to doing anything more than shaking my head sadly at the news headlines or sending a tenner to Oxfam at Christmas. I really value the support of my partners in RESULTS.”

Grassroots activist, Macclesfield

Coaching and support

A unique feature of RESULTS is the way in which coaching and support are used to help individuals and groups to educate themselves about hunger and poverty.

RESULTS uses self-teaching techniques (coordinated through our monthly telephone conference call) to master key information on development issues.

Volunteers can then speak powerfully to their elected representatives, the general public and the media, urging support for effective programmes and proposals that work to end hunger and poverty.

Using phone and email, participants in RESULTS encourage each other to get their letters in the post or make that phone call to arrange a visit to their MP.

There are RESULTS groups in many communities around the UK. RESULTS groups are small and friendly and usually meet in someone’s home. To find out whether there is a RESULTS group in your community check the current list of groups.

Focus calls

Focus calls are a new way for RESULTS partners and activists to build their skills in campaigning, lobbying, fundraising and raising awareness about global poverty issues.

Each month a different topic will be tackled in a workshop-style conference call, led by an experienced volunteer or staff member. We hope that at least one member of each RESULTS group will be on each call, so they can share the learning with their group.

Tuesday 19 May 2009: Leading a successful group

Tuesday 16 June 2009: Taking to the airwaves: getting results on the radio

Tuesday 21 Jul7 2009: Back to basics - microfinance*

This is the first of a set of calls going through the fundamentals of the topics that we regularly work on. We will be covering TB and TB-HIV later in the year. It will be ideal for new partners as well as for anyone who wants to brush up on their knowledge.

All calls take place from 6.15-7.15pm on the third Tuesday of the month.

You need to register at least 24 hours in advance to participate in the call. To register, please contact the office.
